Ladies and gentlemen,
On behalf of our entire company, I want to thank you for inviting us to such an enjoyable Christmas party.
We really enjoyed the delicious food and excellent wine. Also, the music was perfect, so if I were a better dancer I could have enjoyed the party twice as much.
I enjoyed meeting and talking to you, and sharing the time together. I hope we will be able to maintain this good relationship and make next year another great one together.
Thank you again for the wonderful party. We had a great time.

Ladies and gentlemen,
How time flies! It was here that we gave Dr. Olivera a hearty welcome three months ago. We are now here again to bid him farewell.
As you know, Dr. Olivera is well known to the world for his great achievements in the field of International Accounting. During his stay here, he has given juniors and seniors of our department many lectures on International Accounting. And he also visited some universities and colleges in Beijing and gave his lectures there, too. Dr. Olivera will leave for home tomorrow. We, therefore, sincerely hope that he will benefit us with some advice and valuable suggestions.
Finally, we want to take this opportunity to beg him to convey our profound friendship and best regards to his people.
Dr. Olivera, wish you a nice journey.
Thank you.

Hi! Stephen. This is Jim leaving a message to you.
I'm just calling to let you know that I'll be a little late to the football game tomorrow night. I have to work a few extra hours to finish a report. The deadline for the report is Monday. I should wrap things up sometime between seven and eight though.
Oh, then I'm planning on dropping by Janet's house for about an hour since she's been sick recently.
And, uh, one more thing. I'll swing by my house to pick up some food for the game. I am looking forward to it.
See you then.

This is Jerry Williams with "Music in the air", a special music program today.
And I'll be with you throughout the night here.
Oh, nothing likes good old songs to comfort the soul this late Saturday night. And don't forget that I'll be giving away tickets on the hour from now for those of you who can tell me the names of those old songs.
Call me at 263-3816 and be the lucky caller. And if you can tell me the name of the piece and the year it was recorded, you'll enjoy the tunes of one of the best bands ever a week from next Saturday night downtown at the Silver Palace.
Now sit back, relax, and enjoy listening.

Dear friends,
Good evening and welcome to our annual Year Awards Banquet. It is such a pleasure to see so many friends. A special welcome to all of you.
It is, indeed, an honor for me to have the opportunity of introducing our guest speaker for this evening.
Professor Charles Stuart enjoys distinguished reputation as a speaker, educator, writer and public relations expert. He often appears as a guest on the Australia’s most popular television and radio interview programs. During his time as professor at the University of Sidney, Professor Stuart is responsible for public relations education. As a matter of fact, he has just returned from a lecture tour in China, where he discussed “trends of international public relations research”, which is also his topic this evening.
Welcome to Professor Charles Stuart!

Ladies and gentleman,
I’d like to take this opportunity to express our sincere thanks to all our Chinese hosts. Thank you for your cooperation over the years, and thank you for your warm reception here tonight.
Though we’ve only been here for just two weeks, we’re already deeply impressed by your hospitality. We’ve certainly been delighted to be able to have the chance to spend a good time with you here in Shanghai.
Like you, we are also hoping to achieve better results in both our friendship and trade relations. One of our purposes is to explore the possibilities of cooperation in many forms. Let’s join hands and work harder.
So now, I’d like to propose a toast to our hosts, to your good health, and of course, to our friendship and cooperation.

Task:
-- You are required to read the following short speech.

Dear guests,
Situated in western outskirts of Beijing, the Summer Palace is 10 kilometers from the central city. It is China’s leading classical garden and enjoys a worldwide reputation. The Summer Palace was opened to the public in 1924. It was included in the world heritage list by the United Nations Education Science and Culture Organization in 1998.
The Summer Palace was first built in 1153 as an imperial palace. Empress Ci Xi rebuilt it in 1888 with a large sum of money. In 1900, the palace suffered ravage in the hands of the allied forces of the eight foreign troops. It was not until three years later that the palace was rebuilt.
The two main sceneries of the garden are the Longevity Hill and the Kunming Lake. A whole day is needed to view the garden in detail.
